Course Summary

Sports and sporting events play a central role in society, breaking down barriers and uniting people. As well as the human aspects of sporting endeavour, engineering is an important and growing element in almost all sports. Improving performance and enhancing enjoyment, sports engineering is a programme applying engineering principles to an extremely diverse range of sporting activities. To design and analyse the performance of sporting equipment requires mechanical engineering, electronic engineering, materials science, product-design and sports science. Chichester’s Sports Engineering degree recognises this need for wide knowledge and skills and runs interdisciplinary design-build-test projects, allowing sports engineering students to work with other engineering, science and design students to provide a wide exposure to knowledge and skills. Sports Engineering BEng. (Hons) at Chichester aims to provide the student with the scientific foundations, practical skills and techniques to enable them to make a constructive contribution to the world, by designing, building and using sporting equipment. Sports Engineering is an applied subject and the course is based around applied workshop learning; seminars with demonstrations; practical and lab work and design-build challenges.
