The Course

Summary

If you love numbers and financial transactions across all types of business this programme gives you the skills to work in top areas of accounting, teaching and research and growth activities internationally. You can work in public and private sectors, fund management, stockbroking, investment analysis, banking and financial services.

The Accountancy group is a very active research group that focuses on broadly defined areas of financial accounting including international accounting, public sector accounting and critical perspectives on management accounting. The group foster collaborative interdisciplinary and international research which further strengthens their research base. Staff regularly visit universities in Europe, USA and elsewhere as well as hosting visiting staff and offering seminars. You can study PhD specific courses to suit your individual needs. Courses are delivered as part of the Graduate Business School taught programmes. Graduates from PhDs can go into Public and Private Sector Accounting and Management, Fund Management, Stockbroking, Investment Analysis, Banking and Financial Services and Academia.

The Business School offers the following research centres: Aberdeen Centre for Research in Energy Economics and Finance, The Centre for Real Estate Research, Scottish Experimental Economics Laboratory, and The Centre for European Labour Market Research

University of Aberdeen was founded in 1495 by Bishop Elphinstone at Kings College, Aberdeen. The city is compact and architecturally very interesting due to its European trading past. It is near to coastal villages, rolling Aberdeenshire countryside, Royal Deeside, The Cairngorms National Park and easy connections to the Highlands and major cities of Scotland. Ferries run direct from the city centre to Orkney and Shetland where world heritage sites are located.
