The Course

Summary

This Masters in mechanical engineering covers everything from advanced fluid dynamics and solid mechanics, to working on real-world mechanical engineering projects. This degree will provide you with detailed knowledge of the state-of-the-art methodologies and techniques relevant to current and future strategies for the design of mechanical systems and components. We will pay particular attention to the development of investigative, modelling and computational strategies. The course covers fluid dynamics, solid structures, advanced and conventional materials and control systems.

Teaching methods include lectures and seminars supported by practical and lab work. Assessment is a mix of open and closed exams and continuous assessment. Your dissertation will be assessed separately. You have the option of choosing to study this course ‘with industry’ in which a paid industrial placement forms part of your course, including your overall assessment through reflective learning. Whether or not you opt for the ‘with industry’ variant of the course, it is designed to give you the tools to work towards a career in a wide variety of fields in the engineering and technical industries. This degree is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).
