Course summary
Accountants play an important role in business, providing key information that underpins the work of decision makers within organisations
Accredited by the main UK professional accountancy bodies (ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA and CIPFA), we focus on practical content and your future employability. Along with all aspects of accountancy, you'll study topics in economics, law and management.
Professional accountants prepare financial statements and record business transactions; they also use information systems to track financial performance and participate in mergers and acquisitions and the governance of organisations.
A high number of our graduates are employed by major accountancy firms and blue-chip organisations, often overseas, such as Grant Thornton, KPMG, Baker Tilly and Ernst & Young. Others secure training contracts and many undertake further professional study. Our graduates are exempt from a number of professional examinations.

Teaching Methods
We use a variety of learning and teaching methods to ensure that our programme is both vocationally relevant and academically challenging. All of our modules use GCULearn, the university's virtual learning environment, which provides course materials, reading resources, assessments and feedback are all available online. It is also used to enable students to undertake online activities and tasks, listen to podcasts, be involved in online discussion groups, and take part in blogs and Twitter-based learning activities. This approach is blended with more traditional lecture, tutorial and seminar contact.
Our curriculum is designed to promote employability, with our syllabus developed in line with the requirements of professional bodies in order to gain accreditation and subject exemptions.
