Accounting and finance are at the heart of all business operations. From huge service industries to micro businesses, the ability to manage, plan and account for money is the key driver of economic growth and the ultimate measure of business success.A degree in Accounting and Business will enable you to develop the skills to influence and inform business operations and strategy, drive policy, and deliver jobs, prosperity and wealth, opening the door to a wide range of lucrative careers.We'll give you a grounding in the two key branches of accounting – management and financial accounting – teaching you how to prepare business accounts and critically analyse financial decisions.We'll show you how businesses design and control their operations, exploring how economic factors affect business decisions. You'll study models for management and leadership, as well as gaining an understanding of how corporate governance works.You'll also get a grounding in the legal context for accounting and business, looking at the areas of UK and EU law that directly affect the legal structure and operations of businesses.Your lecturers will use their years of industry experience to bring accounting and business theories to life. Plus you'll gain professional work experience through your two professional work placements, experiencing daily life in your planned career and building your own network of connections for the future.**Professional placements** ​We are one of only a few UK universities to build professional work placements into every degree. You'll complete professional work placements, experiencing the types of careers that your degree could lead to. Recent students have completed placements at KPMG, Lloyds Banking Group, Citigroup, UK Tax Associates and the accounting centre of retail giant the Arcadia Group.**Career opportunities** This degree is ideal preparation for a career in finance and business consultancy, including accountancy, audit, taxation, corporate financial services and banking.
