Course summary
Reflecting the highest professional standards, this degree focuses on how accounting and financial principles can be applied practically. You will develop the skills and techniques to devise and deliver solutions to complex management problems. Our BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance is accredited by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), meaning our course has been stringently checked against a range of criteria to ensure our students graduate with a wealth of knowledge across all key areas of accounting.
Is this course for you?Depending on your module choice, BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance makes you eligible to apply for exemptions from qualifications offered by the likes of ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, AIA and CPA Australia. This will accelerate your career progression because you can achieve membership of the key professional bodies faster.
How will you learnAs well as learning advanced financial techniques, you will gain important skills in communication, report writing and presentation. Optional modules in the final year, together with an independent study, allow you to specialise in areas that interest you most.
Opportunities and experiencesYou can choose to take a year long placement to add further substance to your CV. Through our partnership with international accountancy firm Mazars we offer a Mazars Accelerate Pathway (MAP) with guaranteed, paid student placements to a select number of students, providing valuable experience of working in a professional environment. You will also work in our Financial Markets Lab, harnessing up-to-the-minute information and technology used by financial professionals worldwide.
Work placements and internshipsWe'll encourage and support you to take work placements and internships. In between your second and third year, you can take an optional placement year or a summer internship. This is a valuable opportunity to gain experience and develop your practical skills, network and build your professional profile.
