Course summary
Part of City, University of London, Sir John Cass Business School is one of Europe’s leading business schools and is ranked amongst the top 20 business schools in Europe (1). If you’re ambitious, driven, determined to succeed in the field of accounting and finance, you have a can-do attitude and a strong work ethic, then you’re a great fit for this course. Ranked 2nd in London (2) the BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance is both highly selective and highly demanding. You will be working hard for the rewards it delivers. We deliver the degree in strategic partnership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). By meeting the relevant criteria, you can achieve up to eight exemptions from the ICAEW's Chartered Accountant qualification (ACA) and receive similar exemptions from other professional accountancy bodies. You will become proficient in all areas of accounting and finance, from financial accounting and corporate finance to financial management, taxation, economics and statistics. We offer all Cass students unrivalled access to the best of global business intelligence and innovation and this is no exception for accounting and finance students. You will be taught by genuine world-leading academics who are at the forefront of research in accounting and finance, as well as accountancy and finance professionals who practice at the highest levels of the industry in London and globally. In each year of your degree, you will study a core set of modules that will allow you to focus on finance and accounting, alongside modules that will broaden your studies into other areas such as economics and business. In fact, the Accounting and Finance degree at Cass contains more credits than the majority of all other accounting and finance degrees in the UK. By studying for 450 credits rather than the standard 360 credits during your degree, you are able to obtain an in depth understanding in specialisms such as business forecasting, asset management, Visual Basic programming and corporate social responsibility. This means our students can potentially achieve more exemptions from the ICAEW's Chartered Accountant qualification (ACA), so you can get started in your career much more quickly. You spend your third year on a placement which will give you a competitive edge in the job market. Not only will you gain real-life industry experience, you’ll also make connections which will be valuable in your future career in the business and finance industry. During your studies, we will support your professional and personal growth in a number of ways. As well as hosting a series of business networking events at our state-of-the art building, we also employ a variety of assessment methods, including presentations and group-based projects, ensuring you develop your communication skills throughout. All first and second year Accounting and Finance students are also eligible to apply for the Micro-Placements Programme which offers you the opportunity to apply for a 3-5 week summer placement at a London-based employer.
