Overview
Discover theatre production, acting and performance
This BA (Hons) Theatre degree is a highly practical programme which will develop yours skills, ideas and experiences to prepare you for your career in the theatre industries.
Explore narrative, physical and visual theatre, and text and cultural identity throughout your degree. You will develop your performance skills and explore topics including performance, production, critical and cultural studies, business management and applied arts practice.
On this course you will:
- Explore a variety of theatre settings.
- Discover theatrical contexts.
- Develop your performance skills.
- Learn to apply your business knowledge to the theatre industry.
- Have the option to undertakes placement with a range of theatres.
- Benefit from our professional industry partnerships throughout your studies.
Teaching and Assessment
How you will learn
You will have a range of study options and contact hours throughout your degree. Your classes and contact hours will change each year. In your first year, you can expect to attend six hours per week of taught skills classes, at least four hours of rehearsals for third-year directing exercises, six hours of project classes, at least six hours of group rehearsal, two hours of lectures and seminars, and at least six hours of timetabled personal study and preparation. This makes up 30 hours per week.
You will be assessed through a range of assignments, including a wide range of practical and performance contexts. These assessments may include:
- Group and individual performances
- Directing exercises
- Presentations
- Creative installations
You will have no formal exams. Some classes are assessed through continuous assessment and through written evaluations, with several formal essays that lead to a final-year dissertation.
