Course summary

Our selection of Combined Honours courses, one of the most extensive in the United Kingdom, enables you to diversify your learning and employability skills. Study for a degree that combines two different subjects; beneficial to those who have particular cross-discipline interests or those who are not yet sure what they want to specialise in. Visit our website to find out more about Combined Honours courses and what benefits they can offer you.

AMERICAN STUDIES

America is distinct among modern countries because of the stories it tells about itself; as the land of the free, and as a site of endless possibilities. A degree in American Studies asks you to uncover the stories that are not being told and to interrogate the world’s superpower using a variety of disciplinary approaches. This degree will equip you with the tools you need to make sense of the world and to learn from a decidedly decolonised curriculum that privileges the histories and cultures of marginalised and oppressed peoples. Our academics are leading researchers in American Cinema, History, Literature, and Politics and we bring our expert knowledge to bear in challenging and rewarding classes, on topics including the civil rights movement, contemporary presidential politics, and the literature of the Deep South.

You will explore areas including:

  • American film, journalism, literature, and music
  • histories of race, colonialism and oppression
  • the frontier at home and abroad in the context of politics and foreign relations
  • issues of ethnicity, gender, and class.

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

Good management is at the heart of every successful organisation. All of our business programmes are practical in nature and from day one you will start to build your knowledge and understanding of organisations, the environments in which they operate, and how they are managed.

Designed to prepare you for general management, this course is particularly suitable if you are looking for a role in the service, retail or public sectors. You will study business from a strategic viewpoint and examine real-life organisational problems, making use of the strong links between Christ Church Business School and a wide range of local, regional and national organisations, and gaining real-world knowledge and experience. You will explore areas including: business accounting; introduction to economics; introduction to marketing. Between year 2 and year 3 students can opt to undertake a 12 month placement with an external organisation.
