Course summary

This is a broad-based programme for anyone interested in developing multidisciplinary skills within the animal management and wildlife conservation areas. It is also for people already working in the industry who wish to enhance their career prospects. The programme is delivered by experienced teaching staff with a wide range of industry experience at University Centre Somerset’s Cannington campus. It aims to develop management skills and knowledge, alongside research methods, practical techniques and evaluative thinking.In addition, there are a range of facilities available to support academic studies such as an extensive animal collection, and local environmental habitats such as Steart Marshes (WWT), which is one of the UK’s largest wetland habitats.As part of your course, you will be required to undertake a minimum of 150 hours’ work experience in the first year in an industry-related business. In addition, a variety of optional visits to external organisations aid the development of existing skill sets. The course could help learners gain employment within an animal establishment, zoological collection, wildlife organisation or conservation body. In addition, upon completion of the BSc (Hons), a Masters Degree or PhD could be an option. Graduates could progress to an MSc in Animal Behaviour or Primate/Wildlife/Zoo Conservation or Countryside Management.
