Course summary

**This exciting new Level 4 course introduces the world of the forensic scientist and crime scene investigator as well as the practical science kills required to become a practicing forensic analyst. These include biochemistry and cell biology together with an introduction to the criminal justice system within which many forensic scientists work. The course delivers introductory modules in the methods of forensic analysis and the role of forensic science in modern society.****About the course**You’ll develop knowledge and understanding of forensic science theories and practice to be able to apply them in a variety of related contexts. This course will be based at our new £58 million City Hub campus, just by Nottingham train station. The campus boasts state-of-the-art science laboratories, including specialist forensic resources. Other campus facilities include a commercial restaurant, cafe, theatre, dance studios, media suites and library. **HNC core modules will include:**-Fundamentals of Laboratory Techniques -Scientific Data Handling Approaches and Techniques-Regulation and Quality in the Applied Sciences -Cell Biology -Fundamentals of Biochemistry -Criminal Investigation**HNC optional modules will include:**-Anatomy and Human Physiology -Microbiological Techniques -Theories and Causes of Crime -Psychology in the Forensic Setting -Sampling and Sample Preparation -Analytical Chemistry -Work-based Investigation **Assessment**Units are assessed via a range of internally set and assessed assignments including: reports, case studies, oral presentations, practical assessments, individual project work, data analysis, research, investigation, problem-solving tasks and portfolios of evidence.**Qualification awarded**Pearson Level 4 Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Applied Sciences (Forensic Science)**Bursaries**We want our courses to be accessible to students from any background, so we’ve put together a cash support package in the form of non-repayable bursaries to provide financial help where it’s really needed. Details for 2022-23 will be advertised once approved by the university regulator – the Office for Students (OfS). Please check our website - - for more information.**Your career and progression**From the HNC, you could progress on to our Higher National Diploma (HND) in Applied Sciences (Forensic Science) or enter into employment. If you continue onto the Level 5 HND, upon successful completion you could go into employment or progress onto a wide range of science-based top-up degree courses, such as a BSc (Hons) or to further professional study in Forensic Science or a related discipline.
