**The Higher National Diploma in Applied Sciences is a wide-ranging course providing a strong base for progression to further scientific study. You will study a range of topics including biology, chemistry, medical physics and microbiology. Throughout the course, you will acquire a range of practical skills and experience in science disciplines to prepare you for employment or further study.****About the course**This programme is a full Level 5 qualification, designed to provide the skills and knowledge for successful employment in science-based industries, further progression in higher education or training for scientists currently employed who wish to upskill.Transferable skills will include: critical and evaluative thinking, independent research and statistics.**Modules may include:**• Fundamentals of Laboratory Techniques• Scientific Data Handling Approaches and Techniques• Regulation and Quality in the Applied Sciences• Biology• Microbiology• Chemistry• Mathematics and statistics• Medical Physics**Assessment**Assessment is continuous, providing a range of evidence of your learning. This may include: individual and group assignments, practical demonstrations and investigations, research and analytical projects, written essays and reports and presentations. Some modules include assessment by examination to help prepare you for further study.**Qualification awarded**Higher National Diploma in Applied Sciences**Bursaries**We want our courses to be accessible to students from any background, so we’ve put together a cash support package in the form of non-repayable bursaries to provide financial help where it’s really needed. (Hons) Science top-up degrees or equivalent courses. Some students progress straight to employment.The HND opens up a wide range of possible careers in the Applied Sciences, including Laboratory Technician, Research Technician, Chemist, Biologist, Biomedical Scientist, Radiographer, and Product Development Technician.

Applicants should possess (or expect to achieve) a full Level 3 science qualification or two A-level passes in the sciences - preferably Biology and Chemistry.
