Course summary

The first year of the programme is a flexible learning year with student-chosen pathways and block-release teaching based at our London campus, meaning students will be charged at 60% of the annual tuition fee. The second year is based at our Loughborough campus and will be charged at the standard annual tuition rate.

The MArch Architecture programme brings together the knowledge and skills learnt in our highly esteemed BArch Architecture course with the very latest thinking and technologies in architecture and urban design to encourage you to be ambitious and innovative towards our global future.

The programme is structured around a personalised learning approach and ‘research by design’ pedagogy that provides a flexible framework from which you can deliver design experimentation, entrepreneurial thinking and early adoption by taking advantage of the broad ecosystem of actors and resources that our novel design lab approach affords.

The programme is delivered over two years (M1 Pathways and M2 Start-up) with teaching in the first year delivered in block-release weeks at our London campus and online, allowing students flexibility in location. The second year is located in Loughborough to take advantage of our facilities – with a large, newly-refurbished, dedicated studio space environment, VR and digital fabrication labs and over 3,000m2 of workshops to maximise the capacity that allows you to construct and test designs up to full-scale prototypes.

Design labs focus on specialised areas of design research to establish a unique identity for each lab, allowing you to test speculative lines of enquiry as part of an iterative and reflective design process, resulting in visionary and robust design propositions.

Each student has an allocated workspace, which allows cross-fertilisation of ideas for the formation of a lively, tight-knit creative culture.

As a new programme, it is not yet validated by the professional and statutory bodies. However, it has been designed to meet the requirements for prescription by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and validation by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) as a Part 2 qualification in architecture; an essential step towards becoming a Registered Architect in the UK.
