Course summary
This course will allow you to gain an in-depth understanding of two subject areas. The Asia Pacific region encompasses countries as diverse as Japan, China and Thailand and is home to more than half the world’s population. It’s a culturally, politically, and economically dynamic region and vital to our understanding of the world. You’ll have the opportunity to explore the key challenges across the region today choosing from a range of optional modules from East Asian religions, modern Thai history and Chinese society to Japanese cinema.Alongside this, you’ll study international relations, which explores how states interact with each other. You’ll gain an understanding of how the ‘society of states’ has evolved and how it may be changing today. You’ll explore the dynamics that influence interstate cooperation and the roles of international organisations like the UN in promoting international peace and security.
