Why Study this Programme?

As a dominant force in the global economy, the region also contains some of the world’s most pressing security issues. This course introduces students to a wide range of materials on the society, economy, politics and international relations of the region. It is founded in the development of critical analysis of these materials. This course is taught by staff from across UCLan’s Asia Pacific Studies team, including from the International Institute of Korean Studies, which works within a global network of influential academics, diplomats, journalists and public policy officials who work on countries around the Asia Pacific.

Learning Environment and Assessment

The Asia Pacific Studies team includes scholars from a range of disciplinary backgrounds including History, Development Studies, International Relations and Gender Studies who have all published widely on the Asia Pacific area, particularly about Korea, Japan, China and Taiwan.

As a student at the School of Humanities, Language and Global Studies, you will have access to several facilities that create an active and stimulating learning environment. Language learning facilities include two dedicated Brähler interpreting suites which provide state-of-the-art learning opportunities.

Opportunities

The course will provide students with a comparative advantage in journalism, diplomacy, international organisations, NGOs, and global business, while allowing them to develop knowledge and expertise in many facets of East Asia. This course is also designed so that on completion, the student will have studied relevant subjects and have the necessary skills for the preparation of doctoral research.
