**Course snapshot**Aviation is a major international industry, with airlines transporting more than 4.5 billion passengers worldwide in 2019 and new digital technologies being harnessed to create 'smarter' operations in response to global environmental challenges. Developed with extensive input from industry experts, our Aviation and Airport Management foundation degree at University College Birmingham will give you a deep understanding of the aviation environment, supported by simulated and real-life industry projects, airport visits and engaging with experts, while you can also put your practical skills into action in our state-of-the-art aviation facilities on campus.**Who's the course for?**This course is ideal for anyone interested in becoming part of the global aviation industry, including working for international airlines, aviation agencies and international cargo organisations.**Why should I study this course?**- **PRACTICAL APPLICATION** – Apply your skills to practice in our Aviation and Tourism Suite and by working on industry projects, with additional opportunities for part-time work- **ENRICHMENT** – Gain an insight into the industry through visits to major airports – previous students have visited Dubai, Istanbul, Budapest, Berlin, Amsterdam and Finland- **INDUSTRY APPROVED** – We are a recognised Institute of Travel and Tourism (ITT) Centre of Excellence and offer opportunities for you to attend conferences and events, as well as applying for professional memberships**Great! Tell me more**As part of your course, you will have access to our outstanding simulation facilities in our brand new Aviation and Tourism Suite. This features a state-of-the-art mock plane cabin, as well as check-in areas and Galileo GDS system for training students.You will have the chance to undertake additional part-time work during the summer months. Many of our past students have worked part-time at nearby Birmingham Airport, and with the airport’s £500 million expansion plan to become the ‘Midlands Gateway to the World’, there are great opportunities on your doorstep both during and after your studies.**What skills will I gain?**You will gain an in-depth understanding of the global and national aviation environment and practices.You will develop your project management, problem-solving and decision-making skills through projects, placements and other work opportunities.Our optional modules allow you to build further knowledge in areas such as Aviation Safety Management or Sustainable Aviation Practices.**What about the future?**Completing this course will enable you to pursue a career in roles such as:- Airport ground handling- General aviation operations- Airline management- Airport administration- Corporate aviation management- Travel and tourism-based careers (e.g. tourism operators, links with airlines)Upon completion of the foundation degree, you can also progress onto the final year of our full BA (Hons) degree.
