Course summary

This course is designed to prepare you for studying our BA (Hons) Business Psychology degree.

It will help you develop the skills and knowledge you need to study for the full honours degree, even if you dont currently meet the academic requirements.

You'll develop your study skills including academic writing and personal and professional development to start you off in the best possible way for your degree.

You will learn more about business in a global and national context, and approaches to leading and managing in organisations. The foundation year also gives you the ability to develop your analytical skills and learn how to incorporate data to add real value to achieve organisational objectives.

Once youve passed, youll be ready to start your degree course. That means your degree will take four years, or five years if it includes a work placement or year studying abroad.

Career prospects

Your foundation year is only the beginning of your journey to a successful career. Its a stepping stone that will prepare you for a full business psychology degree and all the opportunities this entails.

Your degree could take you anywhere – we have graduates working around the world. The option to study overseas or take a placement year abroad can give you a great head start.

Business psychology is an emerging field and the opportunities for an exciting career will continue to grow. Many organisations have already seen the value of having a business psychologist on board – the NHS and Ministry of Justice have entire occupational psychology departments.

Business psychologists are helping Lego understand the value of play in the workplace. Theyre helping NASA train astronauts for the stress of space missions. And theyre helping the gaming industry make video games more exciting and challenging.

You could look for work in-house with an organisation (especially in the public sector), or you could become an independent consultant working with lots of different businesses. Many business psychologists also find work writing about psychological issues for magazines and blogs.
