Course summary
The BMus Programme is a 4 year full-time programme for performers and composers of outstanding potential. It is practical in focus and vocational in purpose. Its structure and content are flexibly designed allowing you to develop the full range of your abilities and pursue musical interests and aspirations to a high level, with a view to postgraduate study or professional employment as performers, composers, teachers, or other portfolio careers in the music profession. Year 1 of the programme has a common structure for all students, designed to ensure you develop a secure theoretical grounding on which to base your practice, whilst consolidating and enhancing your performing/compositional skills and study skills. In Years II, III and IV an increasing range of practical, creative and contextual modules are offered as electives, along with option modules from other programmes in RCS, in a flexible structure which is designed to promote individual achievement.Choosing to study music in Glasgow means you will be part of the UK’s largest music economy, outside of London. Glasgow is home to the national companies including the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Opera, Royal National Scottish Orchestra and Scottish Ensemble. We have partnerships with all of these organisations and our students benefit from playing opportunities, internships and masterclasses with our professional neighbours.
