More about this course

The foundation year is a supportive introduction to higher education, giving you the confidence and skills necessary to succeed in your studies. This is the ideal pathway if you’re returning to study, would like additional preparation, or are lacking the traditional entry requirements.Through a wide range of topics rooted in the social sciences, you’ll explore ideas such as identity, social justice and inequality. You will also strengthen study skills such as academic writing, presenting, critical thinking and independent research. We will support you every step of the way, in class and online, with group workshops and individual tutorials. To connect your learning to the years ahead, you’ll join six lecture or seminar sessions with tutors from your future degree pathway, giving you a clear sense of what to expect.Following your foundation year, you will go on to study the same course content and modules as those on our Banking and Finance BSc (Hons) degree. The course is designed with input from finance industry experts and draws on accounting, economics, investment theory, law and management to help you develop the skills you'll need to begin a career in banking or the financial services. You’ll have access to industry experts and the University's Bloomberg Room during your course. This will provide you with valuable insight into the banking and finance sector and allow you to work with real-world economic news, data and analytics in the classroom. This banking and finance course shares its foundation year with a number of our other foundation year degrees, allowing you to work with students interested in other business-related subjects and share ideas. You'll graduate with a full undergraduate degree with the same title and award as those who studied the traditional three-year course.
