Course summary


You will:

  • examine biblical texts in their original languages and contexts
  • discuss their traditions of interpretation
  • look at the impact of the Bible on modern culture, philosophy, and politics.

As part of the degree you will develop your own understanding of central theological questions such as:

  • What is the Bible?
  • How was it formed?
  • Why does it remain such an influential book?
  • What is meant by a ‘literal interpretation’ of the Bible?
  • What did the various religious texts mean to their original audiences?
  • What is the relationship between the Bible and theology?
  • In what ways are the Bible and theology important in the 21st century?

You will also:

  • have the opportunity to learn a biblical language in one of the most robust Greek and Hebrew programmes in the country
  • research and complete a dissertation on a subject of your choice
