Course summary

At Keele University, we’re different. Nestled in 600 acres of countryside in the heart of the UK, we have a big campus but a small and cosmopolitan community. We’re proud to be ‘University of the Year for Student Experience’ in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017, in addition to having been ranked No.1 in the National Student Survey 2014-2016. This is because it’s more than green and lovely, it’s a place of research and academic excellence too.The Biochemistry course delivers an exciting theoretical and laboratory perspective on the molecular basis of life. Our state-of-the-art facilities for practical work and our innovative teaching and assessment methods will ensure that you have a fantastic student experience. By choosing to study Biochemistry, you’ll be exploring life at the molecular level and investigating the most exciting areas of contemporary life science and medical research. Whether you study Single Honours or Combined Honours, the Biochemistry courses place particular emphasis on human and mammalian biochemistry, especially relating to health anddisease. This might include unravelling the secrets of the human genome or exploring the targeted molecular therapies of the future. When you graduate, the broad and detailed understanding of biochemistry you’ll have developed at Keele will open up a world of appealing career options. You could choose to work in a directly related field, perhaps as a clinical biochemist, medical bioscientist, forensic scientist, research scientist, toxicologist or science teacher. Or you could branch out a little further, and become a health and safety inspector, training standards officer, science writer or technical author. The applied nature of the programme will equip you with a range of transferable employability skills for careers in the Biosciences as well as in other graduate careers where numeracy and an objective scientific approach to problem solving are valued.
