Course summary

Ecology is critical to understanding and managing human effects on the planet. Ecologists seek to understand the causes and consequences of biological variation at all levels, and they search for the underlying rules that govern change and stasis in natural systems. You will study organisms in relation to their physical and biological environment:The physical environment includes soil, water and atmosphere. The biological environment includes the way in which organisms influence each other. You will complete practical, laboratory and fieldwork assignments and will develop the skills and knowledge you need for a career in an area such as environmental protection and management. We usually consider a maximum of two applications to programmes in the College of Science and Engineering as this helps ensure we make offers to as many students as possible. However, if you are applying to our Biological Sciences programmes you should only select one programme within this subject area. You can use your second application for any other Science and Engineering programmes.
