Course summary
OVERVIEW
Why choose this course
Our BEng Biomedical Engineering courses are taught by leading academics, drawing on over 50 years’ experience training biomedical engineers.
You’ll have the opportunity to take a Professional Training placement at organisations like GE Healthcare, DePuy Synthes, 3M and the NHS.
Our BEng courses are accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).
What you will study
With a strong focus on clinical applications, our biomedical engineering courses explore a broad curriculum. This includes human movement, biosensors, prosthesis design, biomedical signal processing and implant technology, among other topics.
Careers and graduate prospects
We offer careers information, advice and guidance to all students whilst studying with us, which is extended to our alumni for three years after leaving the University.
Surrey has an excellent track record for graduate employment. This is due to the professional focus of our courses, accreditation by professional institutions and our high-quality industrial placements.
Most of our biomedical engineering graduates proceed directly to employment in the biomedical engineering profession. Biomedical engineers can work in a number of areas, including as clinical scientists in the NHS, in rehabilitation, as designers of medical equipment, or even in sports science or biomechanics.
Assessment
We assess modules individually and award credits for the successful completion of each one. Assessment takes place through a combination of examination and/or coursework, practical examinations and reports.
Foundation
If you don’t meet our entry requirements, you might still be able to apply for this course with a foundation year. A course with a foundation year includes an extra year of study to prepare you for a full degree course.
