Course summary

Course Details

Developments in technology have led to exciting new approaches in the creation of broadcast video and audio content. Whether you want to produce content for TV, radio or the web, this course will develop your understanding of these new technological developments and approaches so that you become an expert producer with the confidence to work across all platforms.

You will develop TV and radio ideas and formats, take on production roles, produce podcasts, work in teams on live broadcasts, shoot and edit video and create and work with motion graphics materials.

You will have the opportunity to exhibit your final projects to the general public and industry professionals at our Creative Technology Showcase.

This course offers the opportunity to take a ‘sandwich’ year – a year of paid employment in industry which will build your skills and experience. This is usually taken between the second and third year of your degree, typically making your course four years in total. Students who choose the sandwich route find it helps with both their studies and getting a job after graduation. It can build your confidence, contacts, and of course your CV. Leeds Beckett advertise lots of placement opportunities and provide support in helping you find the right placement for you.

Course Benefits

You will develop production content in a fit-for-purpose broadcasting and radio studio with facilities for live edits of your material. We will give you the skills to use graphics and visual construction to communicate material for branding and audiences. You will learn to anticipate and respond to current local and global changes in broadcasting needs.

Opportunities will arise to work with professional broadcasters and our in-house media training facility on collaborative projects.

Job Prospects

Broadcasting and production companies both large and small need skilled graduates to take up careers as studio managers, video editors, sound editors, electronic news gatherers and radio, TV and web broadcasters. This course will provide you with the necessary experience to apply for a range of jobs in the growing broadcasting sector, where there is a shortage of skilled workers in the UK and internationally. Marketing and communication roles will also be open to you, developing radio, TV and web content for external and internal public relations.
