BSc (Hons) Sports Development BSc (Hons)

This course will give you a deep, considered appreciation for the role physical activity and sports play in today’s global society. You’ll explore the importance of both community and high-performance sport, while looking at the challenges involved in engaging an inactive population. You’ll also examine the significance of large-scale sports events, using key concepts and theories to appraise sports policy and individuals’ behaviour. At every stage, and in every context, we’ll encourage you to use your new-found insights to evaluate sports development practice.

Students can progress into careers in physical activity and development such as sports development professional, health and physical activity promotion, or sport specific development roles with National Governing Bodies of Sport such as the FA, England Netball. There are a range of activity development careers within school, further and higher education settings or within local and national government and councils. Equally elite sport development roles in strategic planning and talent pathways are available.

After your degree, you can go into a whole range of careers, including sports development, health and physical activity promotion, or sport-specific roles within governing bodies like the FA or England Netball. You’ll also find opportunities to develop programmes in schools, colleges, universities, councils and local and national government. Alternatively, you could move into elite sports, carving out a career in strategic planning or creating talent pathways.
