**Course summary**- Prepare for the degree with an extra foundation year at the start.- Learn the essential skills of business management and the role of IT.- Increase your employability through industrial placements.- Experience a strong sense of community and outreach through various student led social initiatives.You will develop a solid background in the commercial applications of technology and gain good general business skills, enabling you to pursue a broad choice of careers. You will be equipped with the knowledge to undertake professional accreditations such as PRINCE2 (Project Management) or ITIL (ServiceManagement).**How you learn**The course is suitable if you don’t meet the entry requirements for our BSc (Hons) Business and Digital Technology course, or you want extra preparation before starting degree-level study. You share the first year with other computing foundation year students, then move on to the degree.You experience and engage in a variety of activities as you progress through the course. We have designed a balanced mix of these activities to help you with the knowledge, understanding and skills we have outlined above, as you develop as a business and ICT student and enhance your employability.You will learn through- lectures, tutorials and seminars- work-based learning projects, peer mentoring events and employability fairs- group and individual coursework involving written and verbal communication activities, problem-solving activities and information-gathering activities (including desk-based or field research)- continuous reflection on your personal and professional development- independent studyIn the foundation year, you’ll build on your existing knowledge and experience — developing useful academic, computing and IT skills in preparation for undergraduate study. You’ll benefit from innovative course content that allows you to access and use cutting-edge technology. Throughout, you’ll reflect on your progress, and build valuable communication and interpersonal skills.
