Course summary
THE COURSE
This programme provides an in-depth specialist business understanding of the equine industry with a thorough study of business management and operations procedures.
An underpinning study of the principles and practice of horse management provides complete industry relevance, providing essential in depth understanding of equine anatomy, behaviour and exercise physiology with optional modules in nutrition and equitation.
Graduates will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of organisations, the business environment and operations and management practices, gaining valuable application opportunities within our excellent equine commercial enterprises.
LEARNING AND TEACHING APPROACH
This programme is delivered with a variety of learning and teaching approaches to include all students’ learning styles and preferences.
For all modules, theory lectures are delivered that aim to deliver the core content and provide the underpinning knowledge. To complement the theory lectures, students have group seminars / practical sessions that are used to reinforce concepts delivered theoretically, utilising the excellent equine centre to gain event management experience.
The teaching methods focus on facilitating a student centred approach to enhance the independent learning that takes place outside of the classroom. Business modules benefit from visits to a number of businesses and facilities to allow applied case studies to be integrated.
Teaching will take place on the Bishop Burton campus in East Yorkshire, UK.
CAREERS
Students graduating from this course could follow careers in the equine industry as sales executives, racing administrators, operations managers, marketing officers and event coordinators.
Positions also available to graduates include business administrators, bloodstock agents, lecturers, researchers and opportunities in equine insurance.
