Good management is at the heart of every successful organisation. All of our business programmes are practical in nature and from day one you will start to build your knowledge and understanding of organisations, the environments in which they operate, and how they are managed.

Designed to prepare you for general management, this course is particularly suitable if you are looking for a role in the service, retail or public sectors. You will study business from a strategic viewpoint and examine real-life organisational problems, making use of the strong links between Christ Church Business School and a wide range of local, regional and national organisations, and gaining real-world knowledge and experience.

You will explore areas including:

  • business accounting
  • introduction to economics
  • introduction to marketing.


Media and Communications is an exciting, multidisciplinary degree that will provide you with a highly marketable mix of skills and knowledge. The media and communication industries are amongst the most rapidly growing sectors of the global economy, offering you many exciting opportunities. The degree, which is delivered by experienced, research-active lecturers, benefits from a range of links with industry professionals who regularly contribute to the course. You may take an internship as part of the Professional Work-Based Learning module; previous students have undertaken internships at the BBC and Northern and Shell Publishing. You can also apply to take a Year Abroad between Years 2 and 3.

You will explore areas including:

  • advertising and public relations campaigns, blogs and digital design pieces, including short films and apps
  • research, applying methods such as questionnaire surveys, content analysis, focus groups and interviews
  • the meanings of adverts, texts, or films, and how media organisations work, by applying relevant theories and frameworks
  • management skills, project planning and team working
  • practical experience in an international context, including a field trip in Europe.
