Course summary

Overview

You’ve set your sights high which is why we’ve designed our BSc (Hons) Economics to match that ambition. You want course content that will connect you with up-to-the minute ideas and discussions in your subject. At ARU, we ensure you’re at the forefront of current issues, like Brexit, exploitation in labour markets, international business and migration. Economics underpins everything, influencing every aspect of society on a global scale, from government policy to labour and population, and by studying this field you can thrive in a diverse field of careers – the scope is boundless. Graduating with this kind of knowledge makes you valuable to employers as you understand the complexity of modern business and politics.

The course explores specific disciplines within a broader context, studying accounting and mathematics, statistics and econometrics, micro- and macroeconomics, as well as project management, environmental approach to business, EU economy and international trade, all in relation to organisation’s behaviour and performance and the impact on our lives.

Using the skills and knowledge you’ll learn with us will make you a desirable graduate, in demand by strategic companies and with capacity to thrive. But why choose university instead of diving into the workforce straight away? Studying economics at university, rather than trying to do it on the job, gives you the space and support you need to grasp new ideas on your own terms. As the course progresses, you’ll establish areas of interest that you can go on to develop in your final project. This freedom to explore is how complex knowledge becomes enjoyable and inspiring.

Assessment

You can expect an interesting mix of coursework, essays, exams and activity-based assignments. Your coursework could include problem-solving activities, consultancy projects, presentations as well as group or individual reports. You'll also be able to access support materials supported by materials accessed through our learning management system, Canvas.

All assessment is designed to allow you to demonstrate what you’ve learned, and to make sure you’re developing the knowledge and skills you need to complete the course.

Careers

We work with employers to make sure you graduate with the knowledge, skills and abilities they need. They help us review what we teach and how we teach it – and they offer hands-on, practical opportunities to learn through work-based projects, internships or placements.

Our BSc (Hons) Economics gives you the theoretical and practical knowledge you’ll need to work as an economist. It also provides a basis for a wide range of careers in industry, business and the public sector.

On graduation, you could choose to progress to postgraduate studies in economics, or in a variety of business- and policy-related disciplines.
