Course summary

The three-year BSc Chemistry degree will provide you with a sound background and practical training in all aspects of chemistry, and develop your understanding of its impact on modern society. Taught by leading academics at the forefront of chemistry research, you will get the opportunity to develop your knowledge of a variety of different chemistry applications such as computational chemistry, nuclear magnetic resonance and drug discovery. You will conduct an independent research project or advanced practicals and you may choose to study topics outside chemistry, for example in mathematics, physics or biology. Whether you want to stay in chemistry research, take up a role in industry or go into something completely different, you can shape your degree to your career aspirations.You’ll be able to complete your practical work in outstanding teaching laboratories. Following a recent multi million-pound investment in our facilities, you’ll have access to state-of-the-art equipment and gain an excellent practical training. You’ll be able to use NMR and IR spectrometers and X-Ray diffraction facilities to analyse your own samples in the laboratories.This course is accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) increasing the employability and enhancing the CVs of our graduates.
