Overview and aims of the ProgrammeThis four-year course aims to give you a detailed understanding of the knowledge and skills required to advance into a successful chemistry career.You will develop a solid understanding of the main areas of chemistry before focusing on areas that are interesting or important to you through a substantial research project worth half of the course credits during your final year. Plus, you will spend many hours in our labs gaining hands-on experience and developing your research, mathematical and computational skills.With more of an emphasis on research than our BSc degrees, backed up with analysis, interpretation and problem solving together with significant opportunities to develop transferrable professional skills, you can acquire all the attributes needed to be a self-sufficient working chemist.Distinctive Features of the ProgrammeAccredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry.Eligible to apply for chartered status - MChem graduates are eligible for membership of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC) and may apply for the title of Chartered Chemist (CChem) after further experience in a relevant job. Great students experience - You'll be welcomed by our student mentors, who'll be there to help with everything from studying to social life. You will also be assigned a personal tutor who will guide you with academic matters. Flexible courses – In most cases it is possible to transfer between any of our MChem and BSc Chemistry courses during the first two years. Summer research projects - There are a variety of opportunities to undertake summer research projects in Cardiff with support from a member of our academic staff, providing research experience and a valuable addition to your CV.
