Course summary
This accredited, four-year degree includes a 9-12 month placement overseas during year three, giving you the opportunity to broaden your horizons working in a different culture and develop your professional skills. Designed to give you a solid grounding in the fundamentals of chemistry with an emphasis on research, the first two years of the course will focus on developing your understanding of how chemistry shapes our world. During the third and fourth years, there is a greater emphasis on analysis, synthesis and problem-solving. In the fourth and final year, you’ll undertake an extended research project, based within one of our academic research groups. You will also gain vital, practical experience in the lab, enhancing your research, mathematical and computational skills. Graduates are eligible for full membership to the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC) and may apply for the title of Chartered Chemist.
Student experience"Baltimore was an amazing city and I enjoyed meeting new people in a scientific field in a different country. When I came back for my final year, I was able to do my lab work much more effectively."Gregory, Cardiff Chemistry with a Placement Year Abroad student
