Course summary

Southampton’s MChem Chemistry with Medicinal Sciences programme is aimed at people who have a passion for chemistry and want to take a second subject – medicinal sciences – to a very high level. You’ll study topics such as pharmacology, physiology and biochemistry.This degree includes six months of industrial experience or a research placement at an overseas university. You will also undertake a research project at Southampton. You’ll be able to complete your practical work in outstanding teaching laboratories. Following a recent multimillion-pound investment in our facilities, you’ll have access to state-of-the-art equipment and gain an excellent practical training. You’ll be able to use NMR and IR spectrometers and X-Ray diffraction facilities to analyse your own samples in the laboratories.The degree will provide you with a sound basis for further study or a successful career as a professional chemist in areas such as pharmaceuticals, biological chemistry and life sciences.
