**Chemistry at Salford integrates the core branches of organic, physical, inorganic and analytical chemistry in a way that meets the needs of employers who are looking for highly skilled chemists across the range of modern chemical industries. We are bringing the industry to you by integrating contributions and perspectives from industry experts into course content, thus ensuring that you will be well prepared for life after university as well as being exceptionally employable.** With an emphasis on integrating your understanding of concepts and applying laboratory skills to find answers to current problems, you will appreciate how chemistry and its applications can transform the world we live in. You will gain experience in aspects of sustainable chemistry, a vital area of the modern chemicals industry, also known as ‘green’ chemistry. Placement year opportunities are available in appropriate research or industrial laboratories and will contribute towards your final degree award: adding ‘with professional experience’ to your degree title. At the University of Salford we pride ourselves on our research and have recently invested extensively in our facilities to ensure that our students are able to complete research projects that are exciting and inspiring, contributing useful findings to the field. Examples of research areas that you can explore include: nanotechnology, drug design and repurposing, cancer and antimicrobial research, natural products, biomarkers, analytical detection of volatiles, mass spectrometry, computational studies, skin modelling, environmental assessment, pollution and remediation, toxicology and much more.
