Course summary
This course is aimed at those who wish to work with children, young people, families and communities in the contexts of education, social work and welfare and youth and community work. Explore child development, welfare and the right to equal access to services and life opportunities regardless of social difference, as you gain academic and practical knowledge of the needs of children, young people and families.
The course is aimed at equipping you to make a real difference and a positive impact in the lives of the groups identified. Teaching and learning on the course brings together practical experience, theory and research knowledge. The course will support you to develop the highest levels of professional competence and advocacy on behalf of children and young people in local, national and global contexts.
The course draws on world-leading research from the University Research Teams including research on child protection, contextual safeguarding and exploitation of children and young people. It also explores child development, child rights, lived experience, inclusion, poverty and the right to equal access to services and life opportunities regardless of social inequalities.
The course equips students for roles and career progression in education, social work and social welfare, family and youth and community work. Our graduates are equipped to understand and apply their knowledge of key theories, debates and the latest research to inform practice.
Our focus on employability throughout the degree course means that we support you in developing a portfolio of practical skills that will enhance your career prospects. Graduates from this course can move on to professional accreditation courses to become a teacher, a social worker or a JNC accredited youth worker or undertake further academic study at Masters level.
