Course summary
The Foundation Year provides an opportunity to build up your academic writing skills and numeracy, and will also cover a range of subject specific content to fully prepare you for entry to an Undergraduate degree. This is an integrated four-year degree, with the foundation year as a key part of the course. You will need to successfully complete the Foundation Year to progress on to the first year of your bachelor’s degree. During your Foundation Year you will get the opportunity to talk to tutors about your degree study and future career aspirations, and receive guidance on the most appropriate Undergraduate course to help you achieve this; providing you meet the entry requirements and pass the Foundation Year.
This course explores child development, welfare and the right to equal access to services and life opportunities regardless of social difference, as you study current practice and expectations of working with children and young people. Academic and practical knowledge of the needs of children, young people and families equips you to provide a skilled service, preparing you for your career. There is a strong employability focus at all levels of the BA (Hons) Child and Adolescent Studies course, which will enable you to develop a range of transferable, employability-enhancing skills. The degree includes a range of skills and levels of personal enquiry deemed essential in the world of work. The qualities, knowledge and skills you gain will equip you for employment within the child development, child protection and broader social care sectors. The course is concerned with policy and legislation relating to children and adolescents. It prepares graduates for a range of roles including those in the voluntary, private and public sectors.
