Course summary

Our Postgraduate Certificate in Child Protection recognises the increasingly high-profile nature of child protection issues requiring an integrated multi-agency service response. It is for practitioners working in settings such as:

  • health
  • police
  • social work
  • education
  • voluntary third sector

This programme has been developed in the context of contemporary policy and practice developments relating to children’s protection and well-being in Scotland.

Protecting our children is at the very heart of society and the individuals and teams who carry out these rewarding and challenging roles make a vital contribution to the safety and well-being of present and future generations. This PgCert will enhance your existing knowledge and understanding of the theory and evidence base that informs contemporary practice. In addition, it can prepare you for a more senior specialist career.

Teaching & Assessment

Our Postgraduate Certificate Child Protection course delivers three modules which are focussed around current policy themes and practice requirements. There will be four compulsory study days, which will consist of a mixture of lectures and seminars thus facilitating integrated multi-disciplinary approaches to child protection.

You will also participate in the use of Moodle Virtual Learning Environment where lecture material, external links to relevant websites and communication with staff and student colleagues can be accessed.
