Course summary
Course overview
Our MA Childhood and Education offers a unique opportunity to broaden your understanding of critical issues relating to childhood and education studies.
It is suitable for recent graduates in early childhood studies or a related subject looking to deepen their knowledge of key themes relevant to the lives and education of children and for professionals working or looking to work in associated professions and progress in their careers.
Delivered by experienced practitioners and academics, this MA offers an excellent preparation for progression in and into professional work with children or for those preparing to undertake further postgraduate or professional studies.
About this course
This course will develop your critical understanding of a wide range of topics and debates relevant to the lives and education of children. It will involve study of significant research informed perspectives relevant to the diverse and complex nature of society.
Our MA focuses on several key childhood and education themes within a framework of diversity, culture and identity which challenges marginalisation and exclusion. You will look at knowledge which underpins research as well as ethical policy, and how they both inform professional perspectives and practice.
You’ll explore key theoretical perspectives and develop critical understanding of the effects of cultural, societal, political, historical, philosophical, global and economic contexts and social exclusion on diverse childhoods and development. In addition, you’ll gain an understanding of the formal and informal contexts for development and learning within the context of related disciplines and professions, elements that are emphasised throughout the MA programme.
