Course summary

Course Aims

This course meets the minimum standards for managing child care settings as set out in DHSSPS Childminding and Day-care (Children under 12). It is designed to guide and assess the development of knowledge and skills relating to Children’s Care Learning and Development including those relating to leading teams and managing resources within Children & Young Peoples’ settings. This qualification will confer occupational competence to work in a management role.

Assessment Methods

There will be a combination of assessment methods for this qualification which meets the requirements of the competence units.

Direct observation of candidate's performance by a qualified occupationally competent assessor and the assessor's judgement on testimony from an Expert Witness Testimony are the main methods of assessment and main source of evidence. Where assessor observation would be difficult because of intrusion into areas of privacy and/or because activities occur rarely, expert witnesses may provide testimony for the occupationally specific units. Additionally the following sources of evidence may be used, Work products, Professional discussion, Candidate/ reflective accounts, Questions, Witness Testimonies, Projects/Assignments and Case studies.

Careers/Progression

Upon successful completion students may progress to various careers within the childcare and early years sector such as nursery manager, nursery nurse, area manager, nursery owners, childminder or further learning by continuing their academic studies in a related programme.
