Course overview

On our BA (Hons) Chinese Studies course you'll immerse yourself in Chinese language, culture and society. You'll also learn to master Chinese (Mandarin) - the world's most spoken language.Alongside gaining a deep understanding of China, you'll explore the culture, politics, and international role of the Asia Pacific region. The Asia Pacific is a region that plays a key role in the global economy. Through studying this course, you will understand why this region is so important in the global economy. You'll explore the culture and history, politics, and society of the region. You will gain employability skills and transferable expertise for many career opportunities.You will also become fluent in Chinese (Mandarin), a language from the Asia Pacific region. You do not need any previous knowledge of Chinese.With our study abroad programme you will gain invaluable experience with the opportunity to spend a year abroad in China as part of your studies.

- Each year, you’ll study the region’s history, environment, society and culture, together with the Chinese language.- You’ll have the option of spending a year studying abroad, learning the Chinese language and culture through total immersion.- You’ll study using the latest industry-standard equipment in our professional interpreting suites, together with our Worldwise Learning Centre.

Our BA (Hons) Chinese Studies course combines Chinese language skills with a broad-based understanding of the region’s culture, history, politics and society. This will prepare you for a range of careers in – or connected to – the region.The main focus of this degree course is developing fluency in Chinese.
