Course summary
Anaesthesia is the field of health care that is concerned with the management of patients undergoing surgery. These patients require accurate pre-operative assessment, optimisation, precise management both intraoperatively and postoperatively. Entrants to this online programme will be expected to have some experience in managing this group of patients and a relevant qualification at bachelor level. The aim of this online course is to equip graduates with state-of-the-art knowledge in anaesthesia & leadership. Six core anaesthesia modules will be completed during the first year of this thee year MSc Programme. A PgCert in Leadership in Health & Social Care will be completed during the second year and a dissertation during the third year of study. Graduates will also develop academic and quality improvement skills that will enable them to introduce evidence-based interventions in their clinical setting and become clinical leaders within their own department.
WHY THIS PROGRAMME
- This is the only MSc Anaesthesia & Leadership programme in the UK.
- The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital is one of the largest teaching hospitals in Europe providing complex tertiary care to the majority of Scotland.
- This programme addresses a significant gap with regards to clinical anaesthesia and leadership education.
- The programme aims to teach students core knowledge, fundamental academic research principles and leadership skills.
- This MSc will provide anaesthesia practitioners with the knowledge and skills required to develop their own services and lead clinical change in the operating theatre and anaesthesia environment.
- This flexible online programme will allow anaesthesia practitioners to complete an MSc whilst in full-time employment in the anaesthesia and theatre environment worldwide.
Students will also achieve PgCert and PgDip exit awards during this course.
CAREER PROSPECTS
Prospective students will be expected to have experience in the field of anaesthesia and be currently/recently employed within anaesthesia practice. The clinical components of the degree, in combination with leadership skills attained during this programme, will make graduates very desirable candidates for promotion.
