Course summary

This course is suitable for those that have already completed a foundation coaching qualification preferably at postgraduate level (level 7) and are already practising as a coach either within an organisation or as an independent coach. You may already have the Postgraduate Certificate in Coaching from Northumbria or another institution, or you may have an ILM level 7 coaching qualification or equivalent.

The Postgraduate Diploma is suitable for those who wish to take their knowledge and practice of coaching to the next level; to learn about a range of contemporary coaching functions and of how coaching contributes to organisational performance. We welcome applications from people at all stages of their career and from all sectors of industry.

Professional coaching practice: you will explore a range of contemporary coaching theories, practices and coaching contexts and apply them to your own coaching practice. The module will be flexible to incorporate the interests of the cohort and reflect latest thinking, research and practice in the coaching field.

Typical contexts explored are likely to include leadership and performance coaching, team coaching and career and transition coaching. You will explore these approaches and techniques via underpinning theories and philosophies incorporating ideas such as positive psychology, psychodynamic theory, transactional analysis, mindfulness and the application of latest research from neuroscience.

The Coaching Organisation: you will explore how to integrate coaching as a strategic approach within an organisational development strategy. You will consider the key elements of a coaching strategy for a case study organisation including: the strategic imperatives for coaching; the role of leadership; internal vs external coaches and mentors; creating a coaching culture through 1:1 and team-based approaches; and evaluating effectiveness and return on investment.

This course will support your professional development as a coach; allowing you to explore and expand your coaching repertoire. With coach-supervisor support, the course provides a platform for you to apply your knowledge and practice of coaching to a variety of working contexts.

The course also provides opportunities to explore potential business development and to expand your range of potential coaching client groups.
