Course summary

Our MA in Community Leadership is a unique course developed and inspired by people who work within communities as activists and change makers. Based at our Burnley Campus, you’ll be part of a leadership learning community, sharing experiences and best practice, and benefitting through a powerful, peer-led programme.

You’ll learn from staff who are all practitioners and internationally recognised in their fields. They’ll share their knowledge on a peer to peer basis and support you to develop new and innovative solutions to current issues.

This course is taught at our Burnley Campus in Pennine Lancashire. You’ll benefit from small class sizes and a friendly, supportive learning environment.

  • You’ll use the philosophy of Paulo Freire to take new theoretical concepts and critically challenge them within your communities.
  • You’ll also use and explore management concepts developed by community educator Mary Parker Follett (1868 to 1933); a woman whose ideas were seen as ahead of her time and which are hugely relevant today.

Future careers

A qualification in Community Leadership can lead to a senior role in the third sector, the public sector, governance and politics, and at an international level.Our graduates have gone on to enjoy successful careers in local politics, education, youth work, business development, local government and public sector, law and management.
