Course summary
The course is taught within our National Centre for Computer Animation (NCCA) and combines the study of art, animation techniques, applied maths and computing, needed to satisfy the demands of modern computer animation, film, VFX and games production. If you want to be able to create art and animation using computer code and be able to describe technical ideas using film and animation, this is the course for you. This course produces graduates who now work all over the world, as technical artists/directors, software producers and games developers in some of the leading animation and production houses, software houses, and computer game and digital media companies. This includes graduates who’ve gone on to win Oscars such as Mark Ardington.- Technical Art/Direction is the practice of using art/animation and computing/maths to solve aesthetic problems. This course is a unique combination mix of art and science, reflecting practice relevant to the production of computer graphics and animation for a range of industries and applications- You'll have access to brand new specialist facilities including a new green screen and motion capture studio, as well as animation laboratories, equipped with industry-standard software- We enjoy strong links with industry, due largely to the ubiquity of NCCA graduates who have worked on films such as Blade Runner 2049, The Avengers, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and Dunkirk- This course is accredited by ScreenSkills, joining the ranks of the top creative training and education providers the UK has to offer- Benefit from regular industry guest speakers including some of our successful alumni- Attend BU's BFX Festival, the UK's largest visual effects, computer games & animation festival featuring a fantastic line-up of speakers, masterclasses, exhibitions, screenings and networking events.- BU is ranked 4th in the top 25 animation schools and colleges in the world, 3nd in Europe and 1st in the UK (Animation Career Review 2020).
