Course summary
The course is designed to develop strong technical game development and project management skills to enhance your employability. With more than a decade of evolution behind it, this course enjoys the benefits of close industry links with regular visits and guest speakers as part of an integrated programme of presentations, discussion groups and social events. A key element of the course is its emphasis on the technical skills that underpin games design, development and the game art pipeline. This includes areas such as games programming, agile project management, 3D modelling & simulation, motion capture and virtual reality systems. We have an excellent track record for graduate employment with many of our students going on to work at some of the UK's most recognisable game studios. In addition, our unique Business Accelerator initiative which delivers industry-standard theory and practice allowing students to gain valuable experience in the game development process and the management of a game studio. Wrexham Glyndŵr University is one of only eleven UK regional Tranzfuser hubs that are sponsored and supported by the UK Games Fund and UK Games Talent. Our business incubation centre (The Enterprise Lounge) plays a key role in supporting this initiative and is home to several student owned game studios. We work closely with organisations such as Games Wales, BAFTA Cymru and the British Computing Society to ensure that our students always have access to cutting-edge industry related training and knowledge.
Assessment methods include the production of digital (and non-digital) games, writing technical and academic reports, compiling and analysing production data, giving presentations, writing code, producing 3D models and audio files. At higher levels of the course, students will also be required to provide statistical evidence of work hours with supporting evidence as part of key assessment outcomes. The Careers & Zone at Wrexham Glyndŵr University is there to help you make decisions and plan the next steps towards a bright future. From finding work or further study to working out your interests, skills and aspirations, they can provide you with the expert information, advice and guidance you need. Once you successfully complete the BSc (Hons) degree programme, your practical skills in programming, 3D modelling, game design and project management will qualify you to work in a variety of roles within this industry.
