Course summary

Our Computer Science with Management and a Year Abroad BSc course combines comprehensive coverage of the principles and disciplines of computer language, programming and project design with an introduction to fundamental management areas including economics, marketing and human resources. If you see yourself in a managerial role in computing, this course may be ideal for you. You will spend your third year studying abroad before returning to complete a final year with us. This depends on you reaching a certain grade average and being accepted by a partner university.

Key benefits

  • 6th in the UK for Computer Science (QS World Rankings by subject 2020).
  • Research lies at the heart of our department - 92% of research outputs ranked as world-leading in Computer Science (REF 2014).
  • You'll be taught by world-class academics.
  • Accredited by the BCS Chartered Institute for IT.

Our course offers a broad and well- balanced introduction to the whole field, without requiring you to specialise too early. You'll have access not only to academics who are renowned in their field but current students who are researching and developing cutting-edge technology to advance the industry. In the first two years, you will study areas such as programming, computer systems, databases, artificial intelligence, software engineering and logic. In the final year, you will undertake a project, which involves implementing a sophisticated piece of software based on your particular interests. Alongside the Computer Science teaching, you will take a selection of management modules delivered by the King’s Business School such as economics, project management, marketing and human resource management to cover the fundamental aspects of management. The Careers Service and the Department of Informatics run a careers programme for Informatics students, which includes skills sessions and visits from top employers.

Employability

Our graduates go on to successful careers in a wide range of organisations including banking, finance, management, and the major software houses, where they work mainly on analysis, design, implementation and maintenance of software applications and systems. Alternatively, many of our graduates choose further study.
