This industry-designed course, provides web development knowledge and a hands-on ethos, delivered to professional standards.Following a series of tailored modules, you’ll develop the ability to think conceptually and translate concepts into reality through technology. You’ll learn the foundations of computing, programming and web technologies. With a focus on your future, we ensure you also learn vital knowledge about cyber security and information management. With your future career in mind, we’ll encourage you to take an additional placement year to apply what you’ve learnt and develop further skills, adding ‘with professional experience’ to your BSc (Hons) degree award.The Foundation Year aims to provide understanding of the key subjects in computer science to meet the prerequisites for study on the associated degree. Key areas of study include effective communication and study skills combined with key subjects in computer science. You will cover the basics of programming, as well as looking at the detailed operation of computer systems. Furthermore, you will cover essential mathematics and gain the skill set needed for success on the related computer science course. Following completion of the Foundation Year, you will progress on to year one of your selected degree for the remaining three years of your course (or four with a placement year).With our envious campus location, minutes from central Manchester, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to get involved in the region’s thriving tech community. There will also be opportunities to enjoy extra-curricular activities through our computing society, or take part in HackManchester..Features• Learn programming (Java, PHP, C#.NET), web technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript), Linux, networking (TCP/IP), databases (SQL) and system development• Understand web frameworks, web APIs, test driven development, HCI/ UX, agile methodology and design patterns• Go beyond programming web applications, and develop skills in security, penetration testing and user experience• Gain the computing and mathematics skills ready to progress on to our BSc (Hons) Computer Science with Web Development degree
