Course summary

Businesses across the world are looking for computing graduates who know their stuff. We could help you show potential employers that you’re the person they need, with this integrated Master’s course. You’ll study how to design and build software that is robust, reliable and attractive to use, often co-operating with others as part of a development team. The course emphasis is on developing hands-on, practical skills in software development, as well as an understanding of the human and social contexts of software systems. The Computing MComp course builds on our successful Computing BSc(Hons) degree and is accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS). You’ll spend an extra year at the end of your studies to gain a Master’s level qualification, and an even deeper knowledge of your subject. The course features option modules, so you can select the topics that you want to focus on. Typical options include: * Computing science * Software development * Information technology * Multimedia. We’ll also give you the chance to gain real-world experience while you’re here. You’ll be able to go on a year-long placement in the industry after your second year. Businesses are keen to employ graduates with work experience, so it could give you the edge when it comes to your career search. In the first year of your course you’ll be studying alongside students doing our Computing Science, and Software Engineering courses. They all share the same first year, but then move on to look at different areas. So if you find in your first year of studies that one particular area interests you more than others, you may be free to transfer between courses. By keeping things flexible, we make sure you have the chance to follow your interests. Just to let you know, if you want to transfer to the MSci Computing Science, you need to achieve 50% or more in your first year Computing Science & Mathematics module, and if you’d like to switch to the MEng in Software Engineering, you need to achieve 50% or more in your first year Software Design & Development module. Computing at Huddersfield brings together cutting edge research, industry standard technology and facilities and passionate and supportive staff. Designed to give you the chance to tailor your studies to your own strengths, goals and aspirations. By blending a wide range of study options with a core computing program, and not forgetting the opportunity to undertake a placement year, Computing students at Huddersfield find themselves well equipped for graduate employment. ~ Prof Andrew Crampton, Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning).Professional links and accreditation: This course is fully accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS) (http://www.bcs.org/), the Chartered Institute for the IT industry.
