Overview

The Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Construction and the Built Environment (Construction) is a Level 4 qualification made up of 120 credits. It is usually studied part-time over two years, one day per week. The HNC in Construction is for you if you also wish to develop your higher level skills within the construction and built environment sector and progress to a higher technician and professional level in Construction Management, Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying, Project Management, Architectural Technology, Building Engineering or Facilities Management.

Career Prospects

Graduates successfully completing the BTEC Higher National Certificate in Construction and the Built Environment will be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of the basic concepts of construction and the built environment. They will be able to communicate accurately and appropriately and they will have the qualities needed for employment that requires some degree of personal responsibility. They will have developed a range of transferable skills to ensure effective team working, independent initiatives, organisational competence and problem-solving strategies. They will be adaptable and flexible in their approach to construction and the built environment, show resilience under pressure, and meet challenging targets within a given resource.

Applicants should have attained a minimum of 32 tariff points achieved through the completion of A Levels, National Awards, Access or other alternative approved qualifications. Have attained at least 12 points at Level 2 or above (e.g. GCSE) or have alternative approved qualifications. Have attained a pass in at least one GCE A Level subject or equivalent Level 3 qualification.
