Course summary

Introduction

Develop the skills you need to lead and manage teams in a variety of roles in the construction sector by studying for our MSc Construction and Civil Engineering Management.

Whether you're a civil engineer looking for a management qualification, you're new to a construction management role, or you're looking to advance to a management position, you'll gain the knowledge, skills and confidence you need to succeed as a manager in the building sector. You'll develop your own management style and have the opportunity to consolidate your new skills by carrying out your own research or work-based project.

Our eight key modules are designed to give you a deep understanding of the role of a manager throughout the entire construction process, whether they're leading and managing teams or solving construction-related problems. You'll therefore enhance your employability as a manager in a wide range of roles across the built environment sector.

Teaching and Assessment

You'll learn how to plan and control projects effectively using IT, gain an understanding of the economic, legal and political influences on built environment firms, and find out how to adapt and re-use existing buildings for new purposes, and the benefits and implications of doing so.

You'll develop your knowledge of, and approach to, management by learning the key principles and practices of management, as well as about people management, HR policy and practices, and how to motivate and develop your colleagues. You'll also learn how to manage procurement and supply chains, as well as sustainability and environmental considerations.

You'll gain an understanding of research methods and design, then put them into practice by conducting a major research project from start to finish with support from an appropriate member of staff.

Careers

Construction and civil engineering managers are responsible for the practical management and planning of every stage of a construction project. They ensure building projects are completed safely, within budget and on time.
